  13. 1.What is Softick PPP.
  14.  
  15.   Softick PPP is a PPP server which could accept connections from Palm
  16.   powered device via USB cable/cradle.
  17.  
  18.   Softick PPP includes simple NAT service to provide easy connection to
  19.   existing networks.
  20.  
  21. 1.1 UsbSync conduit
  22.   Softick PPP starting 2.10 installs UsbSync conduit to the HotSync. This
  23.   conduit doesn't synchronize Palm databases, it synchronize access to 
  24.   USB components instead. This prevent famous BSODs during establishing
  25.   USB connection with HotSync application enabled on some PDAs. So you may 
  26.   use shared USB mode for some handhelds instead using inconvinient exclusive mode.
  27.   A compatibility list for this feature is collected now.

  29.   UsbSync conduit cannot provide shared mode for all PDA, since some of 
  30.   them report wrong USB Function Id (we use it to determinate what connection
  31.   Palm tries to establish: HotSync, PPP connection, Card Export, etc). Here a 
  32.   few already known models which always report "HotSync":  Handspring Treo 90, 
  33.   Acer S60, Sony Clie PEG UX40/50.

  35.   This conduit in a beta stage now and we appreciate any feedback about
  36.   it.

  38. 2. System requirements
  39.  
  40. Softick PPP requires Palm Desktop 4.1 installed.
  41. Windows 98/Me/2000/XP is required.
  42.  
  43. 3. Installation
  44.  
  45. Before installing Softick PPP make sure you have setup Palm's USB driver 
  46. and you are able to perform ordinal synchronization by using HotSync
  47. technology.

  49.  a. Run SoftickPPP-version-EN.exe to launch installation.
  50.  
  51.  b. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen
  52.  
  53.  c. Setup your Palm Network profile. You need to setup your DNS settings
  54.  in Network Profile or in the Softick PPP configuration (accessible from
  55.  right click on tray icon -> Settings).

  58. 4.Known issues and limitations:
  59.  
  60.  You may experience problems with Softick PPP when use it with unsupported
  61.  PDA models. (Some Sony Clies). These models will be support in near future.
  62.  
  63.  Palm m500/m505 :
  64.  Trying to perform HotSync operation with established PPP session crashes
  65.  handheld. This is Palm OS problem, since Softick PPP doesn't install any 
  66.  software to the handheld.
  67.  
  68.  Palm Zire and similar
  69.  You cannot connect two Palm Zire handheld at the same time. These models
  70.  share same USB serial number and Windows PnP manager treat them as one 
  71.  device.The serial number in a device, if it exists, must be unique for each device 
  72.  that shares the same USB Vendor ID and Product ID. Unfortunately 
  73.  PalmOne/Handspring  mistakenly program devices with identical serial numbers. 
  74.  When two or more USB devices with identical serial numbers are plugged into 
  75.  the same system, only the first one plugged in functions. 
  76.  
  77.  Power Management Crash.
  78.  You need to terminate all USB PPP sessions before entering sleep mode on 
  79.  desktop computer. PalmUSB driver incorrectly handles power transition and
  80.  can return garbage instead of correct data crashing Softick PPP.

  82.  Multiple Bluetooth devices
  83.  Only one Palm OS device can be connected to the Softick PPP via Bluetooth
  84.  connection at the time. 
  85.  
  86.  Server connections
  87.  Current Softick PPP doesn't support server connection to Palm OS device. 
  88.  If you need this feature consider using Softick PPP 1.xx
  89.  
  90.  ICMP Echo (ping)
  91.  Current Softick PPP doesn't implement ICMP Echo/Reply (ping) protocol 
  92.  support. If you need this feature consider using Softick PPP 1.xx
  93.  
  94.  PPP Timeout
  95.  In case application performs NetLibClose/NetLibOpen without delay
  96.  (this can also be simulated in Prefs->Network panel by quickly pressing
  97.  Connect/Disconnect button) a PPP connection cannot be established for
  98.  some PDA models.
